How We Give Brands a Unique Flavour

At Guerilla, we believe branding is far more than a logo, a name, or a colour palette. A truly unique brand occupies a space in the mind of your audience, an emotional, memorable, positive, and meaningful one. And if you want to build a brand that cuts through today’s noisy, fast-moving world, it all starts with asking the right questions; beginning with the one you ask yourself.

“If my brand was a person, how would I describe them?”

Would they ooze quiet confidence or command attention with bold flair? Are they delightfully quirky or effortlessly classic? A rebel with a cause, or a refined voice of reason? However you define them, this is where it all begins, with values that matter and a personality that sticks. Because make no mistake; true distinctiveness doesn’t start with nice visuals…it starts with character.

Brand Differentiation is Strategy, Not Style

We’ve been building unique brands for over two decades. From helping to revitalise global giants like Flymo, to positioning new cultural destinations like Market Pavilion, or creating a brand for leading independent production company and podcast network Rusty Quill. Our work always starts by defining a winning strategy.

At the heart of that strategy is our Brand Platform model, which we have developed over the years to align a brand’s purpose, promise, personality, and tone of voice into a coherent and compelling story. When every brand touchpoint shares the same DNA, a brand grows with purpose, living, breathing, and evolving in tune with its audience.

When Cintra HR and Payroll came to us, they weren’t just looking for a rebrand, they wanted a cultural shift. Their charismatic CEO, Carsten Staehr said (with a great deal of passion and conviction) something that stuck with us. Casten said, “I want our people and our clients to be happy, I want them to smile every day.” That simple, powerful idea became the heartbeat of the new Cintra brand.

We built their proposition around “Let’s Make Happy Happen” a bold, feel-good statement that set the tone for everything that followed. From a kaleidoscope of smiling faces to playful icons and even happy animals, the brand became a celebration of people, personality and positivity.

But this wasn’t just about looking cheerful, it was about taking risks. Cintra was a vibrant business, full of energy, and we wanted to reflect that. So, we pushed beyond the expected safe ‘corporate HR’ look and feel, and created something joyful, brave and human centric.

The Building Blocks of a Unique Brand

Across every brand we’ve built, we’ve identified six key traits that define a strong brand.

  1. Differentiation: A distinct position in the market, not just a different look.
  2. Integrity: Staying true to your values and delivering on your promise.
  3. Uniqueness: Everything from your name, your tone of voice, to your colour palette should feel unmistakably yours.
  4. Consistency: A coherent experience across all channels builds trust and recall.
  5. Individuality: Your personality defines how people feel about you; winning hearts is as important as winning minds.
  6. Longevity: Brands built to last evolve strategically, not reactively.

It’s Not What You Say, It’s What They Feel

We always remind our clients that ‘your brand isn’t what you say it is, it’s what they say it is’. It’s defined by every experience your customers, stakeholders and employees have with your organisation. That’s why emotional impact matters so much.

When we rebranded Jam Jar Cinema, we didn’t just design a new visual identity. We created the promise “Cinema as it should be”, and backed it with values like inclusivity, creativity, and community. The result was a brand that feels and looks as warm, quirky, original and welcoming as the team that runs it.

So, How Do You Create a Powerful Brand?

You start by listening. Listening to your market, your team, and your customers. You get under the skin of your business. You define what you stand for, what you’re promising, and why you exist. You define your values and what you stand for. You craft a personality that people can connect and engage with. And then, you bring it all to life through a language, visual identity, and positive experiences…consistently and boldly.

Because a great brand doesn’t just communicate. It resonates.

If you’re thinking about branding, or rebranding, ask yourself that question again…

“If my brand was a person, how would I describe them?”

Then give them a voice, a look, a promise… and a reason to be remembered.
